Our Services

  • Neutering can have significant health and social benefits. But not all pets are equal and this must be considered at the right time. With our experienced surgeons we will discuss whether this is the right decision for your dog/ cat and the different surgical and non-surgical options.

  • Yearly vaccinations protect our furry friends from what would otherwise be debilitating diseases. However, it also give us the opportunity to assess your dog or cat for other illnesses and answer any of your concerns. Before any vaccine is administered we perform a full clinical exam during a 20 minute appointment. We also offer blood titre testing in dogs to see if vaccination against distemper, parvo and hepatitis is really necessary and in your pet’s best interest.

  • Dental disease is the most common chronic illness we see in our pets. Despite this it is still under diagnosed and treated. A dental assessment forms part of our routine examination at The Urban Vet, to make sure that we pick up any dental issues before they become more severe. Dental x-ray and the latest dental equipment allows us to perform thorough treatments to alleviate pain and suffering.

  • Good nutrition is fundamental for your pet's health and wellbeing. Our Diet Advice service offers personalized nutritional plans tailored to your pet's age, breed, health condition, and lifestyle. Whether it's managing weight, addressing specific health issues, or ensuring balanced growth, our experts provide guidance and recommendations to help your pet thrive on a diet that suits their unique needs.

  • When facing complex health issues or difficult decisions regarding your pet's care, a second opinion can be invaluable. Our Second Opinion Service provides a fresh perspective from our experienced veterinarians. We review your pet's medical history, conduct thorough examinations, and offer expert advice, ensuring you have all the information needed to make the best decisions for your pet's health.

  • Holistic Pet Care takes a comprehensive approach to your pet's health, considering physical, emotional, and environmental factors. Our holistic treatments might include natural remedies, nutrition, and lifestyle changes, complementing conventional medicine. This approach aims to treat the whole pet, not just symptoms, for a more balanced and healthier life.

  • Adopting a new puppy or kitten into your family is a very exciting prospect but it can also be very overwhelming. We are here to guide you along this process and reassure. In your first appointment we will perform a thorough health assessment and discuss their vaccination, nutritional, dental care and social needs.

  • With state of the art blood machines in house, there is no need to wait days for results. We provide same day results for many tests so we can move forward with getting the treatment your pet needs.

  • Regular claw trims may become more of a necessity as your pet grows older and exercises less. We also advise regular claw checks for indoor cats. Our friendly nursing team are more than happy to assess your pet’s claws and ensure they’re comfortable.

  • The endless options of pet food on offer these days can make it difficult to choose the right product for your pet. We can discuss your pets nutritional requirements, catering for any medical conditions and together choose a food to suit your budget.

  • Worms and fleas may seem like a bit of a nuisance but they can have serious short and long term effects on your pet’s and family’s health. Dependent on your dog or cat’s individual risk, we will tailor-make a prevention plan to ensure we control these pests, without over treating either.

  • A Faecal Egg Count is a crucial tool in parasite management for your pet. This test identifies the types and quantities of parasites present in your pet’s stool, allowing for targeted and effective treatment. Regular faecal egg counts help in maintaining your pet's gastrointestinal health and prevent the spread of parasites to other animals and humans.

  • Our Healthcare Appointments are comprehensive sessions focused on your pet's overall well-being. These check-ups include physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite control, and discussions on any concerns you might have. These appointments are key to preventive care, ensuring your pet stays healthy and happy.

  • For pets requiring Advanced Care Services, we offer advanced diagnostics and treatments. We cover a range of areas, including cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine as well as orthopedic and complex soft tissue surgery. Our commitment is to offer the highest level of care for pets with specific medical needs.

  • Digital x-ray and ultrasound allow us to work up cases on-site, providing continuity of care. Results from which can guide our treatment and help monitor ongoing illnesses.

  • A microchip is the size of a grain of rice and contains a unique number for your animal. The insertion of a microchip is by injection and takes seconds. It is a legal requirement to microchip all dogs over eight weeks of age. We also strongly recommend microchipping cats whether they are indoor or outdoor. From June 2024 it will be a legal requirement to microchip all cats.

  • Our Dermatology Clinic offers advanced care for your pet's skin and coat health. Our expert treats a variety of skin conditions, including allergies, infections, and parasites. • Acupuncture offers a holistic approach to treating various conditions in pets. This ancient practice, adapted for animals, can relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being. Our certified veterinary acupuncturist gently inserts thin needles at specific points to promote healing and comfort. It's an excellent complement to traditional treatments, particularly for chronic conditions or pain management.

  • Titre Testing is a blood test that measures your pet's immunity levels to certain diseases, helping to determine if and when vaccinations are necessary. This test can be a valuable tool in managing your pet's vaccination schedule, ensuring they are protected while avoiding over-vaccination. It's a safe, effective way to tailor your pet's healthcare plan.

  • We are proud to be able to offer laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery in cases where this is appropriate. This can be done for spaying dogs over 10kg and can be used for a variety of other surgeries.
